Most Teen Patti guides list the six hand rankings and stop there. That tells you what beats what. It does not tell you how strong your hand really is when you are deciding whether to chaal or pack.
This guide adds the numbers. A 52-card deck can produce exactly 22,100 three-card hands, and every figure below comes from counting them. The maths is the same in Teen Patti Master, Yono Winner or a game at home.
The Six Rankings With Exact Odds
| Rank | Hand | Example | Hands | Probability | About 1 in | Beats (share of hands) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail / Set | A♠ A♥ A♦ | 52 | 0.24% | 425 | 99.77% |
| 2 | Pure Sequence | Q♥ K♥ A♥ | 48 | 0.22% | 460 | 99.55% |
| 3 | Sequence / Run | 4♣ 5♦ 6♠ | 720 | 3.26% | 31 | 96.29% |
| 4 | Color / Flush | 2♦ 7♦ J♦ | 1,096 | 4.96% | 20 | 91.33% |
| 5 | Pair | K♠ K♣ 9♥ | 3,744 | 16.94% | 6 | 74.39% |
| 6 | High Card | A♣ 10♦ 6♥ | 16,440 | 74.39% | 1.3 | 0% |
The last column shows the share of all hands that belong to a lower ranking, meaning hands your ranking beats outright. Hands of the same ranking are decided by the tie-break rules below.
How the Numbers Are Counted
You do not need to follow the maths to use the table, but it helps to know the figures are not guesses.
- Total hands: choosing 3 cards from 52 gives 52 × 51 × 50 ÷ 6 = 22,100.
- Trail: 13 ranks × 4 ways to pick three of the four suits = 52.
- Pure Sequence: 12 possible runs (A-2-3 up to Q-K-A) × 4 suits = 48.
- Sequence: 12 runs × 4³ suit combinations = 768, minus the 48 pure sequences = 720.
- Color: 4 suits × 286 ways to pick three ranks = 1,144, minus the 48 pure sequences = 1,096.
- Pair: 13 ranks × 6 ways to pick two suits × 48 possible third cards = 3,744.
- High Card: everything left over = 16,440.
Each Hand and Its Tie-Break Rule
- Trail: three cards of the same rank. Higher rank wins, so A-A-A is the best and 2-2-2 the lowest trail.
- Pure Sequence: three consecutive cards of the same suit. Most apps rank A-K-Q highest, then A-2-3, then K-Q-J down to 2-3-4. A few apps treat A-2-3 as the lowest run, so check the rules panel.
- Sequence: three consecutive cards in mixed suits. Same ordering as the pure sequence.
- Color: three cards of one suit, not in sequence. Compare the highest card, then the second, then the third.
- Pair: two cards of the same rank. The higher pair wins; if pairs match, the higher third card (kicker) wins.
- High Card: none of the above. Compare the highest card, then the second, then the third.
Suits have no rank in classic Teen Patti. If two hands are exactly equal, many apps split the pot. In the traditional home rule, the player who asked for the show loses. Check which rule your table uses.
Why the Number of Players Changes Everything
The “beats” column is about one opponent. At a full table you need to beat everyone who stays in, and that is much harder. As a rough guide (ignoring the small effect of cards already dealt), the chance that a hand beats every one of several random hands falls quickly:
| Your hand beats… | vs 1 player | vs 2 | vs 3 | vs 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Any Pair (74.4% of hands) | 74% | 55% | 41% | 23% |
| Color (91.3%) | 91% | 83% | 76% | 64% |
| Sequence (96.3%) | 96% | 93% | 89% | 83% |
This is why a low pair is a strong hand heads-up and a marginal one at a six-player table where several people are still betting as seen players. Our Teen Patti strategy tips build on this.
Variants Change the Odds
Everything above applies to classic Teen Patti. Wild-card variants such as AK47 and Joker make Trails and Sequences far more common, and Muflis reverses the rankings entirely. See Teen Patti variations explained for how each one shifts the maths.

There are 52 Trails among 22,100 possible hands, a probability of about 0.24%, or roughly 1 in 425 deals.
Is A-2-3 the highest sequence in Teen Patti?
In most apps A-K-Q is the highest sequence and A-2-3 is second highest, followed by K-Q-J. Some tables rank A-2-3 as the lowest, so check the table’s rules panel.
